Physiology of reproduction in relation to nutrition.

چکیده

In the infantile animal the reproductive organs gradually develop but do not begin to function as organs of reproduction until the age of puberty, although their internal secretions begin before this time. In the female the cause for their functioning lies outside the ovary itself, for immature ovaries transplanted into adults begin to function immediately, whereas adult ovaries transplanted into immature animals do not function until the age of puberty is reached (Foa, 1901). It is now generally recognized that the functioning of the ovary depends on gonadotrophic hormones coming from the anterior-pituitary gland (Smith & Engle, 1927; Zondek & Aschheim, I927), the two main hormones being the follicle-stimulating hormone (F.s.H.) and the luteinizing hormone (L.H.). The anterior-pituitary gland also produces growth hormones (Evans, Meyer & Simpson, 1933). Normally the onset of puberty occurs as the adult weight is approached and the rate of growth declines. Injection of gonadotrophic hormones into the infantile animal immediately causes functioning of the ovary and the onset of puberty, and so one must suppose that the time of onset of puberty depends on a change in the balance of output between the gonadotrophic and the growth hormones of the anterior-pituitary gland. With animals that have a breeding season (such as the sheep) the age and size of the animal when puberty begins vary according to the time of year at which it is born, for in such species the gonadotrophic hormone output of the anterior-pituitary gland is seasonal and is dependent on the ratio of hours of darkness to hours of daylight. Thus a definite age and size are not necessarily associated with puberty. How far then is the age of puberty affected by the plane of nutrition on which the animal is reared? Experiments by Prentice, Basket & Robertson (1930) (Table I) on fowls have shown that increased rate of growth due to good nutrition lowers the age

Essentiality of antioxidant vitamins for ruminants in relation to stress and reproduction

The naturally occurring antioxidants: vitamin E, β-carotene and vitamin C are known to ameliorate theoxidative stress generated during various physiological and pathological conditions. The oxidative stress mayoccur at different sites, different times, and by different mechanisms in the animal system. Lower levels ofthe anti-oxidant vitamins are associated with poor fertility and production lev...

Effect of Dietary Melatonin and L-Tryptophan on Growth Performance and Immune Responses ofBroiler Chicken under Experimental Aflatoxicosis

The aim of the present work was to determine whether the administration of melatonin or L-tryptophan (a precursor of melatonin) affects the immune responses and performance of broilers during induced exposure to aflatoxins in feed. The study was conducted from 0-6 weeks comprising six dietary treatments in triplicate with10 chickens in each replicate. The diets were formulated to supply 23% cr...

Spermatozoa Molecules in Relation to Bulls Fertility

Bull fertility may be defined as the process by which spermatozoa fertilize and activate the ovum and then support embryonic development. Bull fertility is a complex trait having relatively low heritability and plays a vital role for efficient production and reproduction of bovine. Various mechanisms involved in regulating bull fertility associated phenotype and reliable biomarkers are poorly d...

Estrogen receptor gene 1 expression in caprine and its effect on fertility

The present study was undertaken to analyze the expression pattern of estrogen receptor 1 gene (ESR1) in Barbari bucks (fertile and non-fertile) identified on the basis of seminal quality traits and fertility trials. RNA was extracted from the spleen by Trizol method. The expression pattern of ESR1 gene was analyzed using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The expression pattern of E...

Effect of different activators on development of activated in vitro matured caprine oocytes

This study was designed to compare the effectiveness of different activation treatments for activation of in vitro matured oocytes and their developmental potency in mCR2aa medium so as to obtain maximum number of embryos. A total of 1090 cumulus oocyte complexes (COC’s) were collected from 480 ovaries. In vitro matured oocytes were randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 in vitro matured oo...

The roles of RFamide-related peptides (RFRPs), mammalian gonadotropin-inhibitory hormone (GnIH) orthologues in female reproduction

Objective(s): To benefit from reproduction and deal with challenges in the environmental conditions, animals must adapt internal physiology to maximize the reproduction rate. Maladaptive variations in the neurochemical systems and reproductive system can lead to manifestation of several significant mammalian reprocesses, including mammalian ovarian lifespan. RFamide-related peptide (RFRP, Rfrp)...
